Summer in a bowl

My smoothie bowls are more or less always a reflection of the season we’re in which means that right now it’s lots of berries, especially strawberries, in my smoothies. During this corona time and quarantine I’ve created a new routine for myself, which I absolutely love.

Normally, when I’m working I don’t have breakfast in the mornings because I’m usually not hungry that early. I would like to say that it is a natural intermittent fasting going on, meaning that I don’t put up any boundaries regarding this, I simply just let my body decide for me. Instead, I eat an early lunch. This is still what my body seems to like, I usually feel hungry after being up for three to four hours. So far so good, I listen to my body and gives it what it needs but there is one new thing that I’ve realised – I LOVE “BREAKFAST FOOD”! So now, when I have the opportunity to actually have breakfast how ever late I want, I start each day with a smoothie bowl. I don’t know if I would call it breakfast or lunch, so I guess it’s brunch – but who the hell cares, it doesn’t matter – it is delicious and it makes me smile. I feel that it has become part of a sort of self-care routine that I do every morning, which is not dependent on anything I’ve done or not done.

My point with this post is to make you think about your self-care routines, if you have any – and wether you do them every day, regardless of your accomplishments or how you feel. Because, I think we tend to celebrate ourselves only after accomplishing something, or only when we feel good about ourselves… and I believe it’s important that we give ourselves daily self-care no matter what we’ve done that day, no matter if we feel worthless and low. I have absolutely had days during this quarantine when I’ve felt extremely self critical, like I don’t deserve anything good and that I haven’t accomplished any of my goals set for that day or that week. Normally, or before, I would have punished myself when I felt like that. I would probably have done an extreme cleanse and pushed my body to the limit. This time around, I have not done any of those destructive and even self-harming things – instead, I’ve kept to my self-care routine and it has absolutely increased my wellbeing. And it’s such a small thing! Imagine when you add even more small things that you do for yourself, every day, that makes you smile and feel good.

Remember that you are worth being celebrated and that you don’t need that from anyone as much as you need it from yourself. Take some time and reflect over what you could do for yourself each day that could make it a bit better. In the meantime, enjoy this smoothie!

Wow! I've learned so much about nutrition and food, things that I had no idea about before. Working with you has helped me create a food preference of my own and I've realised that healthy is not defined by my size.
