These are perfect if you, like me, love the combination of licorice and chocolate. If you don’t, just exclude one or the other!
It is so easy to make raw balls, all you need is some sort of “base” – it could be oats and seeds like in this recipe, or almond flour and crushed nuts for example. Then, you need something that will allow for the base to come together and form a dough – like mixed dates, peanut butter, coconut oil or real butter, if you don’t want them to be plant based. Dates is always great to use because they have the “stickiness” you need, as well as the sweetness. You can also spice them just as you’d like – amaze-balls, right!
- 8-10 dates (soak them for 10 minutes before using)
- 2 tbsp peanut butter
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 dl gluten free oats
- 3 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 tbsp hemp seeds
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp licorice powder
- A pinch of sea salt
Start by mixing the soaked dates with a bit of water (start with little and add as you go), peanut butter and coconut oil – use a blender. Then, put all the dry ingredients in a bowl and stir thoroughly. Add the mixture of dates, peanut butter and oil and use your hands to mix it together, forming a dough. Place the dough in the fridge for about 20 minutes before you start making the balls. If you wet your hands with cold water, before you start rolling the balls you won’t get sticky and they will get nicely round and even. Store in the fridge for 5 days or in the freezer (in this case, bring them out about 15 minutes before serving)
